As my anxiety heightens during the holiday season, these are my quick, go-to tools to help ease those uncomfortable feelings. See 👇🏼 for a few more of my favorite tips that you can implement almost anywhere!⁣ ⁣ ☕️ Put your phone down and take small, slow sips of water, your favorite herbal tea, or [decaf] coffee. Focus on your drink of choice + your breathing in between sips. ⁣ ⁣ 🖋 Draw or doodle. My go-to is writing in cursive ... I’m really not sure why, but it’s always had a calming effect on me 😌⁣ ⁣ 🎧 Put your headphones on and listen to feel-good music or podcast, or a quick guided meditation. Today marks 1️⃣5️⃣ days since I’ve done any exercise besides walking. How do I know? Because I’ve been counting ... and dwelling. ⁣ ⁣ My body is fighting illness and rest is necessary, but I’d be lying if I said that I’m not feeling down and out because of it 😔⁣ ⁣ These last couple of weeks, I’ve found myself hyper-focused on “the next day I can get in the gym” instead of the next day I’ll feel better. I’m recognizing that the pressure I put on myself AND the impact society has on my outlook of exercise/the size of my body is still alive and well — and it’s NOT helping me heal.⁣ ⁣ Today, I’m working toward changing my mindset: I will get healthy. I will exercise again, and soon enough. I will do my best not to take my level of wellness + my ability to move for granted. I will accept where I am physically and emotionally at this time. I will love myself in this stage.⁣ ⁣ ... And I have a strong feeling this next week will FEEL better than the last two 💛✨

There’s just something about coming home from a trip and getting back into to routine that feels SO good. I find it especially important to tap into my routine or “toolkit”, what I KNOW works for me, when it comes to managing my anxiety:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🥬 making my go-to green #fab4smoothie for breakfast — recipe saved in my “food” highlight⁣⁣ 🧘🏻‍♀️ a daily yoga sequence, walk, or workout I enjoy⁣⁣ 😴 prioritizing sleep (a solid 8 hours, if possible)⁣⁣ 👤 going to therapy weekly/biweekly⁣ 💊 taking my medication daily⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m a big believer in the power of holistic healing + modern medicine when it comes to mental health, as my routine reflects. I’m here to remind you that IT’S OKAY to take medication for your mental health ... and it’s okay to have questions about it, too! While I am not a professional, my DM’s are open if y’all have any questions on my experience taking an SSRI to help fight anxiety. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Let’s break the stigma together #breakthestigma #myfavoritemeds 💛✨
I didn’t start my blog or this Instagram with a plan. All I knew was that I loved to write and that, while scared as hell, I wanted to share my story. Over a year later, and I still don’t have a plan ... But I do have immense gratitude.
